EFT for
Releasing Stress

  We are remarkable... resourceful... resilient...
and we carry our stress with us.

We give up our sense of well-being in bits and pieces, to a host of things, without even knowing it. Often, following difficult experiences of many kinds, some portion of our overall sense of well-being, of trust and confidence in the goodness of life and others, of hope and expectation that the future will be bright, can be lost and the stress of the experience can stay with us.

This can easily go unnoticed because we are so accustomed to attending more fully to the world around us than to the world within us.

Our instinct is to hide uncomfortable feelings, reject disquieting thoughts. We try to manage the aspects of our experience that make us uneasy - we push the unsettling thoughts and feelings away, we turn on the television or radio, we stay busy.

We do this for valid reasons. Obligations call, others are depending on us, life goes on - inner discomfort gets in the way. The old adage about always counting our blessings makes it feel like whining to focus on "the negative." And we somehow think, especially as adults, that we should just know how to get through and beyond life's hard, scary, painful moments. But we don't necessarily know that and we tuck the difficult emotions away, not knowing how to fully let them go.

The trouble is that unresolved, unreleased emotion can lead to internal conflict and rising stress. The emotional tension of even a minor resentment, for example, when not truly resolved becomes amplified by the next experience that triggers resentment. The same happens when we experience sadness, fear, etc. and don't fully release their effect on us. In time we experience these unreleased emotions as rising tension which begins to affect our well-being and cause us to react disproportionately to stressful incidents.

EFT is a simple but powerful tool to help release the stress generated by difficult experiences, whether sourced in current circumstances
or the lingering effects of something past.

How can EFT help?

Stress and physical tension make any situation worse and can even erode our ability to enjoy pleasant ones. EFT facilitates release of stress and/or physical tension, often with surprising speed.

As this occurs, our perceptions and perspectives can change, quieting negative thoughts and ushering in more constructive ones. These shifts will sometimes lead us to changes in circumstances. But even if we are in the midst of a difficult long-term situation that we need to stick with, at least for now, having an effective means of the releasing the stress it generates is a powerful blessing.
