What is EFT?
Emotional
Freedom Techniques is a stress relief technique which can also be used
to anchor and strengthen positive change and greater success. It is
easy to learn and can be self-applied. It has been effective for many
thousands of people with a broad range of issues and is being used by
health professionals and laypeople worldwide.
How Do You Do It?
Based
on the ancient Chinese art of acupuncture, EFT involves gently tapping
a series of acupressure meridian points with the fingertips (no needles!) while focusing on specific
feelings and/or physical sensations. Release of negative emotions,
tension and discomfort is often very rapid.
Why Does It Work?
In the early 20th century Albert Einstein and others were laying the groundwork of our understanding that at the most fundamental level every solid-appearing thing in the physical realm, including our bodies, is made up of pure energy.
Several
thousand years ago the Chinese, who apparently understood our underlying energetic nature, mapped out twelve main meridians, or channels, in the body through which this energy flows. Along these meridians are many points (used in traditional acupuncture) where the energy is accessible from the surface of the body. A handful of these points, each associated with a major meridian, is used in the EFT process.
It
is theorized that during EFT gently tapping on these meridian points,
while focusing on specific emotions or sensations, balances our energy in relation to those emotions or sensations. The effects of this balancing are
experienced as relief from stress and tension related to what is
focused on, and the ability to then focus on desired things with
greater ease and clarity.
Positive effects on physical health can be
attributed to the fact that when the body's energy and resources are
freed from the effects of stress they can better support the body's
innate healing abilities.
